Site of the Week: Victoria & AlbertBy Burkey Belser

We stumbled onto the Victoria & Albert Museum website recently and found a lot to like about the site itself that a professional service would enjoy. The large background image on the home page changes with the program the museum is featuring, something you could imitate on your site as you look for inventive ways to break out of the box. One reason the site works so well is the wonderful—and wonderfully simple—logo. It also changes color to stand off from the background image. As the home page scrolls, imagine the introduction to your own firm or organization, hot news below and other features you can highlight on the home page. The Exhibition Ranges follows more or less the same template and is refreshingly easy to navigate. I love the “Shop” and can imagine a resource center inspired by this design, but the balance of the site is uneven. Nevertheless, the V&A site is worth a look-see. And the next time you are in London, plan to include a visit in your afternoon. Anyone interested in design will be fascinated by this museum.
