Open Source for All—IKANOW

Open Source for All—IKANOW

This week we've decided to highlight Ikanow.com. Ikanow is an analytics-based company that compiles data about its clients, supplies these results to them, and ultimately helps “empower them to make meaningful decision from this information.” While the concept of an analytics based company may, under certain circumstances, seem fairly stagnant, Ikanow does a wonderful job of promoting itself through a very creative and unique website design.

Some of the key features that stand out while browsing through this website are the use of parallax layering, scroll over image animations with hidden dropdown content and animated statistical analytics. These three features make this website unique and fairly trendsetting. In fact, these features could also be beneficial in a variety of industries, through well-crafted, strategic planning and design.

For example, single page parallax layering has recently become a web fan favorite for its simplicity, style and overall unique appearance. The parallax design removes any confusion on where to go or what to click. It adds movement through content, image and page blending. And it keeps the user engaged and on the site. The scroll-over image animations with hidden dropdown content continues to build a well-organized environment, allowing for heavier amounts of information on the website without disrupting the site’s overall flow. These features could be used to house client biographies, additional site links, or a companies capabilities. The third and final feature that stood out was the animated analytics. Once again, Ikanow took creative control of an otherwise bland statistic and added motion, creating a refreshing and fun feel.

Overall, Ikanow has done a fantastic job at bringing to life an otherwise stagnant field. As a creative minded person with major anxiety towards math, statistics and analytics, I spent a plethora of time perusing this site and enjoying every minute of it. This is a fantastic site with much to offer. Check it out when you can.
