Net of Insecurity

Net of Insecurity

Your deepest, darkest fears about the vulnerability of the Internet are confirmed in this two-part article from the Washington Post. For almost all of us, what happens after we click is of no particular interest. Nor are we really prepared to pay the cost to protect our websites against intrusion. Why? Because, for the most part, as users, we are not affected by the dark belly of the Internet. Our emails go through. Our website is accessible. The danger of complete collapse, however, is real. We're known about this, apparently, since 1988; that is, since forever. But the cost of the fix relative to the apparent severity of the problem has most just responding with a shrug. Whether you see the glass as half empty or half full, whether you are a doomsayer or optimist, expect to read about this issue again in bigger headlines with greater alarm.
