404 FOUND!

Error? I think not! Ok, so maybe we weren’t actually TRYING to get to the 404 Page on purpose. Never the less, here we are. Why not make this an opportunity? Banish the shame. Let’s use it to our advantage by adding some useful, or at least entertaining, content. “OOPS” or “ERROR” is just a waste of time and real-estate. Perhaps some clever messaging? Or a thought leadership blurb. What if we include our site menu to help get us where we need to be? Or a SEARCH feature to quickly get us back on track?

Ok, forget useful for a minute. Think fun. Maybe we can be a bit sillier or even edgier on this page than we might consider for the rest of the site. Maybe this page features a simple, mindless game to distract us from our search for a minute—maybe even linger long enough to check out what we’re all about by heading deeper into the site. How about a quick video or an amusing GIF? Picture this, a beautiful, full screen image of a beach and a link to a travel site. Maybe just some fun links to stuff we like? Music, movies, artists, recipes. Whatever. SO WHAT! It’s better than “I THINK SOMETHING WENT WRONG.” Look, I’m sure there are 1000+ blogs on neat-o 404 pages. Google them and get inspired. Nothing new here, just a "Gentle Reminder" (that's and industry term). Point is, no one likes being lost. So consider yourself FOUND! And welcome, to the 404 page.
